This thread relates to getting the best out of the Harbeth User Group and finding your way around.

If you go to the blue banner at the top of the page, go along to New Posts and you can see what's happened recently on the group. Saves you having to trawl through the forums.

At the foot of the page is the Forum Jump menu . . . that's probably the fastest way to jump to an individual forum

I've been asked a few times "how do we subscribe to a thread as we were able to do on the old SmartGroups?"

Well, you can, and it's very easy but you have to be a verified full member before you can subscribe (or post). When you signed up you would have been sent an email by the Administrator here. That would have invited you to reply, thereby verifying your email address. If you didn't reply to that email, you are not in fact a full member!

To subscribe to a thread .... on the blue banner, go to Thread Tools - subscribe. Then sit back and wait to be notified of activity in the thread (or threads) to which you have subscribed.

If you want to see all of the messages in the thread as a tree, on the blue banner go to Display modes and select Threaded. You will automatically be taken to the last thread at the bottom of the tree. I think this is the most useful mode.

If you want to see the thread tree and the last few massages, go to Hybrid view.

If you do not want to see the thread tree, but you want to see all the messages, in full, from the very start of the thread, go to Linear view. In this mode you would have to scroll from the first to last message.

"Where do I start a new thread?"

Well, considering that we are attempting to accumulate a lifetime's knowledge here, that knowledge has to be organised and arranged in a logical way for others to follow.

Here are some examples of new threads, and our suggestion as to where to start the thread:

"What amp do you recommend for the Monitor 30". The key word is Monitor 30, so this should be a thread in HiFi speakers, Monitor 30 specific

"What type of CD player works well with Harbeth speakers". This is a general question: it does not relate to any particular Harbeth so it should be started in Equipment. etc.

Recommendation: try to place a new thread with the Harbeth product that it relates to. Please do not duplicate the same question in more than one thread as the Administrator will delete duplicated questions/threads and their answers (if any).

You may have noticed that due to one of the numerous bugs in the underlying database software package that runs this Harbeth User Group (and which we pay for), that the SEARCH function didn't work properly. It was not possible to search for two or three-letter words at all, so if you typed 'BBC' or 'M30' no results would be returned.

This ludicrous situation has persisted for months since we upgraded to the latest software, and is still unsolved. So, our genius webmaster Ivan (Moose Web Design (http://www.moosewebdesign.com), Antwerp) has implemented an AJAX search tool. It's running now. Please do try to search and let us know your experience. Thanks.

The SEARCH box is on the front page at the top right.

I am getting more results but there are too general. I am looking for posts discussing Harbeth's grille cloth. The first keywords I used were " grille cloth" and received 55 results. The next keywords I used were "grille cloth Alan A. Shaw frequencies " hoping it would focus to more relevant topic but the search engine returned 100 results. How can I narrow my search further. I am looking for effects of the grille clothes to the super tweeter in my SHL5.

Thank you.
