Thanks for the suggestion. I will post something to the Harbeth user forum.
Ambiophonics is like stereophonics, something anybody can use to listen to
two or four or six channel recordings, new or old. RACE is one possible
embodiment of Ambiophonics and I hope there will be many others just as
there are many stereo or 5.1 variations. The RACE program can be installed
in computers, components, game consoles, cars, etc. It is free. At the
present time it is available in TACT components and can be thought of as a
feature just like room correction, loudness controls, etc. Basically it
allows you to switch between stereo and Ambio. If you install it in a
computer (PC or MAC) then you have made a component like the TACT.
Eventually there will be little conversion boxes.
It does work in real time so playing Ambio is just like playing stereo.
I am not a DSP programmer but it seems to be easy. There is a guy in Hong
Kong who says he is doing it. If you have a DSP card maybe you can use a VST
plug-in or the JAVA Transcoder from Hotto although I guess these only work
with Intel/Apple type processors. But with Laptops so cheap (use Linux) why
go to the bother of using a DSP card?
