Now that's impressive. I love the look of that McIntosh gear (and also the M40's). Congratulations ! ! !

Thank you for kind comments. They sounds fantastic with McIntosh gear as they look. I will pair them with MC275's soon.tube powers !
Hey David... Good to hear from you. I sold the SHL5 last year.
You will be surprise how the M40.1 works well in my small room , no booming bass just perfect combination.
I still keeping the Elipsa as well as audiophile speakers and the M40.1 as music lover's speakers.
Come by when you get a chance![]()
Hi bluejazz,
I sometimes wonder what will be the improvement with the M40.1 when you came from the SHL5. A path I was thinking of. Could you detail how does this upgrade improve your listening pleasure?
Thank you,
Sébastien
Scale, bass weight and extension and increased power handling.
Hi Dave,
Thanks for your answer. Actually, I feel that the SHL5 reproduce the scale of instrument really well but I haven't heard the M40.1 yet.
Sébastien
Sébastien,
Just like hifi_dave said....better bottom end, Bigger scale and giving you a true Full range sounds. Tweeter works for high, Mid works for mid and 12" works for the bass so there are no collaboration here.
When I had a SHL5 I was happy with Jazz and Vocal but not on Classical Music especially on big orchestra music.
Also I am not big fan of the sub so I didnt go that route.
if you can swing it do it ~! You won't look back anymore.
Hi @all,
after looking at all these nice setups I also want to post mine. Next step will be some room treatment..

Hi, Infobert,
simply gorgeous.
One hint: concealing the strips up to the TV would be nice.
Regards,
Peter
Hi Infobert,
I really like them in rosewood. What are your room dimensions and which treatment do you plan to do?
Sébastien
Hi Peter,
thank you. you are completely right. That´s part of the "room treatment" project...
Regards
Hi Sebastien,
room dimensions are 4,5x9 meters and listening position is around 3,5m from the speakers. Next to concealing strips I still have some minor challenges with reflections/echoes as the room is "spartan" furnished. But at the end this is moaning on a very very high level...
Hi bluejazz, Welcome back![]()
Love to see everyone's Harbeths at home, :- )
Here's my new "babies" - SHL5's in Rosewood, along with the Blue Circle BC206-NST power amp.

Well, I've always said one day I'll upgrade my P3ES2s to ESRs and have finally done it! Here they are in cherry veneer. Apologies for the horrible TV dominating the room; it's the landlord's and is covering up a hole in the wall and a mess of cables, so it has to stay where it is.
What a blow I have to report! The day my speakers I've been looking forward to all week is the day I go stone deaf in my good ear!(Nothing serious, just wax, but the treatment drops make things worse before the improvement).
Nonetheless I couldn't resist a listen and in spite of everything the audio upgrade is instantly recognisable. A delight.
Ben from UK. Harbeth P3ESR owner.
Congrats Ben. The P3ESR sure looks nice on the Something Solid stands.
Hi ANADA,
1. why do you think it clips?
Sugden SPA-4 delivers 50W@8Ohm, do you mean M40.1 sucks more than this?
Because of source (or pre-amp) voltage output exceeds input sensitivity of the power amp?
Sugden SPA-4 is not a "decent" amp?
Should I need MPA-4 which delivers 160W for M40.1?
2. What dou you mean by bass problem with Sugden-Harbeth match? Did you get excess (boomy) bass; or (thin) lack of bass?
Which (room or amp or speaker) is the main problem?
