Re: Which Harbeth Speaker for my System / Room
For 7 vs 5 sound, I agree to what Thanos said but not on the subwoofer.
I was love sub then became hate sub...but now I love it again..recently, I heard my friend shl5 setup match extremely well with a REL Strata sub (a more than 15 yr old sub). We did tried to listen the whole setup with and without the sub. With the sub off, the 5 sound is extremely well in all area, particularly it's bass is good enough and yes, tuneful. With the sub on, all the good sound remain but the bass just play better and goes deeper, punchier and the overall stereo imaging is more enveloping. The differences with and without sub when playing classical music like Bruckner 9, Handel harp concertos, etc is obvious: with sub the musics are even more complete and fundation of the music is solid/presence.
Good sub integration is not easy. Need a room with no serioue bass issue and a really good sub (musical sub like REL). I do not have any experience with Linn sub. But I suggest you do keep your sub for either 5 or 7. If your room do not have serious bass issue (room mode booming, etc) and the Linn sub is a good sub, I think either 5 or 7 will be benifited.
